Orthoclase, from the Greek for "break straight", belongs to the feldspar family of minerals, which also include moonstone, amazonite, spectrolite and labradorite. Orthoclase is transparent yellow feldspar resembling citrine quartz or yellow beryl and is primarily found in Madagascar. Orthoclase is often colorless or champagne-colored. Its hardness of 6-6.5 on Mohs scale makes orthoclase suitable for gem collectors and as jewelry in the shape of pendants, earrings and pins.
